Plique à jour
Similar in effect to a stained glass window, in the
technique of plique à jour the enamel is held
within a framework of metal, with no backing of metal
behind the enamel. Developed in the fourteenth century,
it is a technically demanding technique, producing beautiful
but somewhat fragile results.
